The MWC 2014 event in Barcelona, Spain witnessed the two most awaited smartphone launches on the very first day. The smartphone world giant Samsung and leading manufacturer Sony have launched their flagship models, namely Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 for the world.

Both the phones have lived up to the names and to their predecessors with stunning looks and extra smart features. The buyers will surely find themselves in dilemma once; they’ll compare the features and their own needs.

Well, here below I’m trying to solve this problem for you by just providing a brief comparison between the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2. I hope it’ll help you while deciding between them.

Design and Display

It was much expected that the Galaxy S5 will feature a metallic body by ditching plastic as their legacy, but, that’s just not the case again as Samsung has retained the plastic over the metal. Though, the dotted looks on the back side is good and provide more quality than Galaxy S4.

The display of S5 is slightly bigger than 5.1 inches with the same full HD resolution at 1080p.

On the other hand, Z2 also has retained its legacy of using metal and glass for the body which is no doubt better than the S5. The screen size is also same that is 5.1 inches with exact HD mode 1080p display.

The Xperia series is waterproof since the launch and this time S5, too, choose to provide users a waterproof body as a new edition.

I guess, in design section the edge is with Z2 while display game remains equal.

Software Technology

The Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 both run on the latest android version 4.4.2 KitKat as expected. The Galaxy S5 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor @ 2.5 GHz with 2 GB RAM support which makes this smartphone a complete powerhouse.

It counterpart Xperia Z2 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor @ 2.3 GHz with 3 GB RAM support. Now, that’s an interesting battle! But, I’ll call this match off as none of the participants have an edge over other do be declared as a winner.

Xperia Z2 is still having the crucial 1-0 lead over Galaxy S5 because of its design.

Camera and Internal Memory

The camera feature is surely a thing which can single handedly decide the winner of any smartphone contest if it’s on your priority list. But, guess what, this time Samsung has decided to do let it down without putting a hard fight.

The Galaxy S5 features a mighty 16 MP camera with HDR mode to click your picture in an outstanding way. It also has new features using which you’ll get the 2 images of the subject with 2 different scenarios.

One image will focus on the main subject while the other will concentrate on the background. Now, that is something really cool, I guess. The S5’s camera will also be able to record the videos @ 4K which will add one more point to its magnificent camera.

The Xperia Z2 however, has maintained its legacy of world class camera with whooping 20.7 MP with features like steadyshot to take the clear images and a burstmode which promises to capture 61 images in only 2 seconds!

Well, if this is the case, then it is surely better than the Samsung Galaxy S5 and it also has different video recording options as well like 2100p@30fps, 1080p@60fps and an ultra slow 720p@120fps make it better than the S5.

On the internal memory front, S5 has 2 variants of 16 and 32 GB while Z2 has only 16 GB. However, both the phones have MicroSD card slot which ends up by providing the 64 GB of final internal memory. Quite a fair game!

Now, I think the Xperia Z2 is leading the S5 by 2-0.

Smart Features and Battery

The Samsung has finally launched the much talked ‘fingerprint’ scanner with its galaxy S5 and in addition to that it has much improved new TouchWiz which is actually a handy combination of android and windows. It also a data speed booster which speeds the data surfing on LTE and Wi-Fi signals.

The Xperia Z2 has nothing much to discuss about in the features as it has the same Sony features with LTE network access. This game has been won by Samsung I think; score’s 2-1.

The S5 has a 2800 mAh of battery which promises to give backup during most of the day with Samsung’s claim of 21 hours of talk time. But, the Z2, again going past the S5 has a 3200 mAh battery which will surely be better option than Samsung.

So it left the final score of 3-1 in the favor of Sony Xperia Z2.

Wrap Up

However, the above comparison is just to provide you an overview of what your selected smartphone has. The personal needs and choices of every individual can be different, so it’s up to you only to decide that which one is the best for you.
