We are providing you all the details about Galaxy S5’s carbon fiber body rumors in this article, keep reading.

Galaxy S5 Carbon Fiber

The design of the Galaxy range smartphones from Samsung has been strongly criticized in past, but the company has announced a new partnership with SGL Group based in Germany for the purchase of carbon fiber composites and material.

As per the sources, this material will be used for new Samsung products, but the press release does not specify the phones and /or tablets. How Samsung will take advantage of this material is still a mystery, but as per the rumors, Galaxy S5 will be the first device using such equipment from the South Korean company. Although, there were rumors strongly suggesting that Galaxy S5 will come with metal body but the agreement between Samsung and SGL Group overturns the situation.

Apple, HTC and Sony have always been praised by users for “premium” finish of their smartphones, as they use aluminum and /or glass for outer body of their devices. But Samsung has always bet on plastic and its derivatives. In addition to purely economic reasons, the main reason that flagship Samsung phones such as Samsung Galaxy S4 is made with polycarbonate is due to the strength and lightness of this material. However, in comparison to smartphones like iPhone 5, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z, Samsung has not fared well, especially at the points of built quality and looks.

Samsung has acquired 50% ownership of the SGL Group Company which is specialized in the design of carbon fiber parts. If Samsung brings Galaxy S5 with carbon fiber, we will have a device which is light in weight, easier to use, more polished, offers more strength and looks beautiful too. A carbon fiber Galaxy S5 could come with just 7 mm thickness and 120 grams weight. Another advantage of carbon fiber over aluminum is that it is less prone to scratches, which is a big problem with phones built with aluminum casing. No one likes to get scratches on their shiny phone, that’s why we spend lot of money to buy cases for our phones. It looks like we won’t have to worry much about scratches, if Galaxy S5 turns out to be a carbon fiber device.

So far, only Samsung seems to be interested in the carbon fiber for the manufacturing of its devices. Carbon fiber has often been used to manufacture shoes, sports equipment, watches, etc. It will be interesting to see how carbon fiber phone perform.

As for the technical specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S5 can feature 5.2 inch Super AMOLED Plus touch screen, 8-core processor, 4GB of RAM and a 16 megapixel camera and 3,200 mAh Li-Ion battery to power the phone. It could come with Android 4.3 or Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, whichever is available at the release time of S5. The suggested release date of Galaxy S5 is April, 2014.

  1. Carbon fiber sounds like a great idea due to it’s durability and scratch proof. I have Xperia Z and I have already broken the glass panel once, and there are lot of scratches on the back.

  2. Samsung must change the design of Galaxy S5 totally if they want to stay on the number 1 position. We have already seen how much success phones like HTC One, iPhone 5 and Xperia Z have seen, which are using premium materials for construction of the phone.

I know Samsung is going to rock at the Hardware and software part, but design has always disappointed. So, they better make a good design this time.

  3. I prefer this kevlar or cf composite. It spreads force better. Advertise it as straight from americas cup technology which will sell it in the US, Aus and NZ and other countries that competed. Light weight is good for handbags. Narrow is good for smaller (single hands). Looks way better than the tacky faux leather. I prefer to get my own cover. But make it waterproof/resistant inside, which means the battery has to be great. Use the new capacitor that’s just been invented that charges in 30s too. Tech 21 as a back and on shatter points or something that feels ok, has friction yet will spread or absorb force on impact is good. The galaxy s2 otter case was brilliant/
